2012 DestiNation

ImagiNation is a project that is driven by the belief that in London we can realise and celebrate our unique position of living in a city which houses the world.

Over five years a story will be created, one that builds each year. It will be a vision for the future which has a collective imagination as its foundation and the next generation as its creators.

In 2008 we will be sewing the seeds for the future around the universal theme of GermiNation. We will explore what are the essential ingredients for the future and what specific qualities and cultures exist in London .

Kinetika seeks collaborators and partners for this exciting new project. Please contact us at info@kinetika.co.uk

Would you believe that the original Notting Hill carnival started in 1492?! Today's Notting Hill carnival with outdoor soundsystems, evolved in the mid 1960s as a small community fair that gradually grew and grew into the spectacular we know today!

This new and first-of-its-kind exhibition on London 's riverbank reveals the power and artistry of Europe 's largest street performance - Notting Hill Carnival.

A key feature of the exhibition is the "Interactive Carnival", a multi media programme that enables you to step right into Notting Hill Carnival - be part of the mas camp. . .nose around the artists studios . . . become immersed in the steel pan band. . . and check out a panorama of the whole carnival!

The exhibition highlights 4 diverse and key artists in the carnival world - Ali Pretty, Carl Gabriel, Clary Salandy and Lawrence Noel.

Ali Pretty's work is unique in the way she uses a strong narrative and creates an intimate journey within a universal experience. Ali has pioneered telling the story of the evolving travels of carnival around the world. Some of her selected work will be shown which includes drawings of carnival designs, full costumes, photography from events and filmed interviews.

The Kinetika Bloco's musical journey has unpacked the carnival suitcase and found a truly dynamic, diverse British Carnival sound. The Kinetika Bloco draws its influences from Trinidad and the Caribbean, Brazil , West and Southern Africa, India and New Orleans jazz. These sounds amalgamated reflect the population of Britain today, and draw on past, present and future journeys - historical, actual and cultural.

Over the last seven years Kinetika has been building the model of The Kinetika Bloco with over a 100 young musicians and dancers from London . Kinetika are keen to focus on positive examples of just how much can be achieved with young people, from whatever background. The Kinetika Bloco is led by a professional team of artists including Artistic Director & Designer Ali Pretty, Musical Director Mat Fox, Bateria Director Sam Agard, and Choreographers Jeanefer Jean-Charles & Leon Hazlewood. The Kinetika Bloco employs a long-term engagement programme with young people, parents and communities. It trains up members to become advocates and teachers for the Bloco, hence creating pathways to careers for Bloco members.

Come and see the Kinetika Bloco for free their last few gigs of the year!

SCHOOLS WORKSHOPS

kinetikalogo

May Field used to be terrified of maths, but now she has a toolbox with 6 special problem solving objects that allow her to overcome her fear and approach maths with confidence, and in fact she has to admit that she even enjoys it! One day, however, she wakes up to find her toolbox stolen! She calls all the children together and asks them to help her find them. They willingly go off in search of the tools. But it's not going to be easy, because it's all the work of The Number Devil and he sets many obstacles on the way!

In the summer term of 2007, Kinetika went to Mayfield Primary School to create the "May Field and the Number Devil" playground installations. Around these, Kinetika produced themed creative maths workshops with the children, where every pupil was able to make a themed headdress. The sessions culminated with a celebratory dance performance and theatrical showcase of the maths problems to parents on the last day of school. The project was funded by Creative Partnerships.
