bespoke workshops within schools and community groups, higher level carnival
training amongst adults and one day sessions around other events that
we create.
The main subjects are:
Visions of Carnival

practical exercises in drawing and model making, budgeting, materials
suppliers, production schedules. By the end of the weekend students
will have designed large scale characters and a section costume each.
Adult residencies (7-10 days)
The adult Making of Mas is an advanced carnival skills course for self
employed and unemployed artists. The course will train up a local team
of artists who can then be employed to deliver and develop high quality
carnival activities within a region. We provide course handouts for
every module of the programme and are at the moment, investigating publishing
a training manual.
The aim of the course is:
- To give participants a broad understanding of carnival,
as an art-form, and from a global perspective
- To teach essential carnival costume construction
making skills
- To facilitate participants to deliver workshops
in schools and the wider community
- To enable participants to become self-employed and
successfully seek employment in the field
The programme covers:

around the world and throughout Britain, exploring the different cultural
influences that have led to the carnival as it exists today, including

mas bands, how to transform ideas and drawings into reality including
budgeting, production management and sourcing materials
