Murphy has worked for 25 years in technical design for top Trinidadian designer Peter Minshall. Projects for which he has been responsible for technical design and production management include the Barcelona Olympics, The 1996 Atlanta Olympics, The Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Parade.
Murphy is a specialist in large scale costumes and puppets, involving making of individual backpacks and creating animated structures 6m high. He is known as the best structural designer in Trinidad Carnival.
Murphy was the structural engineer for Yemanja, creating 5, 5m high puppets.
